SEGRO UPDATE TREES

Tree Removal Works

Hedges Farm -SEGRO and it’s design team carefully considered whether the existing trees at the new development entrance could be retained through amendments to the approved highway design. An alternative option was developed and submitted to the highways authority for consideration. The Community Liaison Group was informed of this on 2oth August 2026.

Following detailed discussions and a review of the alternative proposal, the highways authority confirmed the original approved design should be implemented. The alternative would have required changes to the original approved highway design and further technical assessments, approvals and safety reviews. The authority concluded that it did not satisfactorily address highway visibility, operational and long term maintenance requirements.

As a result SEGRO will proceed with the approved highway scheme in accordance with the requirements of the highways authority and the existing technical approvals. The removal of approximately 60 trees has commenced. The Alan Williams Gun Turret will not be affected by these works.

A414 Cycleway- seven trees will be removed to facilitate the new cycleway. Due to road safety concerns, these works will take place over the next two nights 13th and 14th October during the current closures.

The Park Street roundabout tree works will take place during this weekends partial closure. There are four trees to be removed and another tree to be reduced in height by 6 metres to achieve a final height of 14 metres. For the safety of road users, pedestrians and operatives, the cutting will be done at night.

All works are carried out by suitably qualified and experienced contractors in accordance with relevant ecological surveys and legal requirements. Appropriate mitigation measures will be in place but we apologise for any disturbance that may be caused.
