Nearly2000 people voted in the first consultation (Community Governance Review -CGR) ending in early October, over 99% in favour of establishing a Parish/City Council for St Albans!
We’re in the 2nd legal consultation now ending 23rd February. As we already have a Parish Council here we don’t get a vote. But there is an online consultation where we can have our say.
If you have friends and relatives in the city get them to vote for it. It’s the only way to have a local voice, which can stand up for us, protect our assets and our identity when SADC is abolished in early 2028. Parish Councils are currently pressing to have green spaces and assets transferred to them for the same reason.
We have to prevent more SRFI type decisions being made over our heads. Parish/Town/City Councils will be our only clear democratic voice once Unitaries are set up, because our Unitary Councillors will be in a minority and under enormous financial pressure. At a recent public meeting we heard representatives from High Wycombe describe what had happened to them without it. It was like being punched in the gut. We don’t want that happening here.
