Covid-19 Information Update Issue 43 w/b 20th December

Hertfordshire’s new Campaign “Let’s win winter together!”

We understand the last few weeks have been disappointing for many with the announcement of new Covid-19 measures. However, it is important we continue to keep hope and remember how far we’ve come in our fight against the virus. As the Covid-19 vaccination programme reached its first anniversary last week, we celebrated all staff and volunteers in Hertfordshire and West Essex who have helped save lives through the vaccine rollout. It has been a year like no other, in which the NHS has delivered more than 2.5 million vaccinations in Hertfordshire and west Essex alone. Together, we must keep doing everything we can to protect each other. Until more is known about the Omicron variant, let’s give the gift of good health to friends and family this festive season.

Please make sure your Covid-19 vaccinations are up to date, get your flu jab if you’ve been offered it and take a rapid ‘lateral flow’ test shortly before you go out to meet people. If your test is positive, you will need to book a PCR test and self isolate.

The NHS is calling for more vaccinators, staff with administrative skills and volunteers to come forward to help accelerate the booster programme. If you are a registered health care professional who has clinical vaccination experience or are someone that’s interested in providing administrative support at a Hertfordshire or West Essex vaccination site, please email Anyone interested in volunteering to support the vaccine programme should register at www.communities1st.org.uk/covidsteward

From Tuesday 14 December, people who are fully vaccinated and identified as a contact of someone with COVID-19 – whether Omicron or not – should take an NHS rapid lateral flow test every day for 7 days to help slow the spread of COVID-19. Please find up to date information on accessing rapid test kits in Herts Click Here

PCR test sites are experiencing high demand. If no appointments or walk-in availability at a test site is shown, you can order a PCR home test kit to be delivered to your address. For more information please  Click Here

A number of planned vaccination walk-in sessions in Hertfordshire and west Essex have been cancelled this week. Significant demand is leading to unacceptably long queues for the public and causing traffic disruption around larger vaccination centre sites. For up to date information Click Here

Boosters

Over the next few weeks, the vaccine programme will be accelerated so that:

  • Booster vaccinations will gradually become available to people aged 18 and over
  • The gap between second doses and boosters will reduce to three months instead of six
  • A booster jab will be available to those who are severely immunocompromised, three months after their third primary dose
  • Second doses will be offered to children aged 12-15, 12 weeks after their first dose
