Here’s info from one of our favourite charities, Rennie Grove Hospice Care about an upcoming event. If you’re able to help them in any way, it is always appreciated.
Rennie Grove Hospice Care is a charity providing specialist care and support for adults and children with a life-limiting illness in Bucks and west Herts. Through our unique hospice at home service, available day and night, and a range of day services we support our patients to live the best quality life they can with a choice about how and where they are cared for towards the end of life.
The charity hosts a number of fundraising events throughout the year which are vital in raising funds for the services it provides and we are currently seeking support for advertising one of our next events The Herts 10K. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, we won’t be able to host this event in person this year, so we’re inviting participants to join us and take on the 10K or Half Marathon as part of our virtual event. We regret not being able to deliver the event in the usual way this year however, we’re committed to making the 2020 virtual event a success and would be delighted if participants could join us in celebrating the event’s 15th year.
For the third year we will also be hosting a junior division for runners aged 12 -16 (inclusive) and trophies will be awarded to the first three junior finishers in addition to the first three adult male and female categories.

The Virtual Herts 10k and Half Marathon
Sunday 4 October 2020

Rennie Grove Hospice Care’s biggest fundraising event is back this October, but not in the way you might expect…
To celebrate 15 years of the event in a safe and responsible way, we’re inviting you to join us and take part in our Virtual Herts 10K and Half. Because hosting the race in Harpenden in October 2020 will no longer be possible, we’re inviting you to join us virtually and run either a 10k or a half marathon in your area.
We’re hoping you can start your race on Sunday 4th October, the day the race should’ve been in Harpenden, and join us for the zoom call at 10:00am however, if you can’t make it to join us then, you’ll have the rest of week to complete your 10k or half marathon distance.
What you get for signing up
By signing up, you’ll still receive a race pack including a medal and t-shirt, but you’ll also get support from us in your training, on-the-day participant activities and fundraising advice. This event has been a cornerstone of funding for Rennie Grove Hospice Care for 15 years, and while we won’t be able to see you in person, we hope you can still join us in running and fundraising for this important local service to some of the most vulnerable people in our community.
On the Day
We’d love you to join us and the rest of our running community for a pre-race zoom warm up. There’s also an app which you can share with friends and family to track you live on your run, a leader board of results and a virtual wall of fame! We’re encouraging the younger generation to take part in our event and there will be a Junior Division for the virtual Herts 10K. This will be for ages 12 – 16 years. If you’re under 12 years old, don’t worry, we simply need parental consent for you to take part.
Why The Herts 10K and Half needs you more than ever
During lockdown, Rennie Grove Hospice Care’s seen record numbers of more than 600 patients being cared for. This unprecedented demand for our hospice at home service has been twinned with a funding crisis. Shops have been closed for months, and all events were cancelled. If we’re to meet this growing demand, we need you, now more than ever.
So sign up, take part, and give it your best shot to fundraise for a local charity that needs you!
